“Hardest stag do in the world” raises thousands for NSPCC
- 15th February 2012
A Thai boxer has raised more than £5000 for the NSPCC after a weekend dubbed “the hardest stag do in the world.”
As part of his pre-wedding celebrations, Michael Dicks and friends took part in a number of endurance events in order to raise cash for the children’s charity.
According to The Darlington & Stockton Times, these challenges included a 31-mile off-road mountain bike race, an eight-mile kayak race and a 24 kilometre weighted mountain hike.
18 people completed the event with Michael, who is due to marry his fiancée Samantha in May.
The friends split into two teams to give the weekend a competitive element, with the losers having to endure an outdoors ice bath for one minute at the end of the events.
Paul Hamilton, who is Dicks’ trainer and best man, led his team to victory over the weekend forcing a chilly end to the weekend for the groom and his team mates.
Speaking to The Northern Echo, he explained the motivation behind what is certainly an alternative method of celebrating a wedding.
He said: “Michael has got fights lined up in the New Year, so it would be silly us going out and drinking. [He] wanted to put something back because of what he has gone through. It’s the first time that the NSPCC have heard of something like this.”
