Stag and hen weekends explored
- 22nd November 2011
Researchers have looked into the real goings on at stag and hen weekends.
With films such as ‘The Hangover’ painting an image of a somewhat debauched stag weekend, researchers have looked at what a typical stag or hen weekend really consists of and how close it is to the image portrayed in the media.
To seek the truth behind stag and hen weekends, journalist Allan Olingo spoke to those who had already gone through a stag or hen celebration – as well as the people who organise them. He discovered wildly varying results.
Some of those he spoke to reported stag weekends to be just as raucous as the media portrays, with one claiming that a highly-charged environment – as well as a great deal of alcohol – led to some questionable behaviour.
“In one of the parties I attended there were strippers who were hired to perform for the groom and his friends,” groomsman Joseph Saya told standardmedia.co.ke. “Unfortunately some men engaged in sexual activities with them.”
Not all stories were quite so depraved, however; with recent bride Hilda Kinoti explaining her more wholesome wedding preparations – which included the services of a marriage counsellor.
“It is mostly an older married woman and she handles topics that range from bedroom matters to communication, finances and children,” she told ktnkenya.com. “My bridal shower was a conservative one; we played indoor games.”
